Maurizio Sarri did not shake Pep Guardiola’s hand followingManchester City’s6-0 thrashing of Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.The Blues boss walked straight down the tunnel after the full-time whistle, ignoring Guardiola’s outstretched hand, and the City boss spoke with Chelsea assistant Gianfranco Zola instead.

Sarri is under immense pressure following the heaviest Premier League defeat in Chelsea’s history.They have now conceded an astonishing ten goals in their last two away games, including the 4-0 embarrassment at Bournemouth last week.Speaking after the game, Guardiola insisted Sarri simply didn’t see him, and even defended the Chelsea manager from calls for his sacking. “They beat us at Stamford Bridge. Against Napoli last season it was tight at times,” he said.“People don’t understand how difficult it is [to play this way].“In my first season it was tough too. It takes time, it needs owners to really believe in that.”3

Sarri didn’t look at Guardiola

Meanwhile, Sarri was unable to guarantee whether the club would keep faith in him as manager.When asked about his future, he responded: I dont know, you have to ask the club, I have no idea about this at the moment.The hosts were 4-0 up within 25 minutes through a combination of brilliance and calamitous Chelsea defending.3

The City boss spoke with Zola instead

As early as the fourth minute, the visitors switched off to allow Bernardo Silva acres of space on the right, and his cutback duly found a clinical Raheem Sterling.Then, following a ghastly miss, Sergio Aguero came up with something sublime, curling a screamer into the top corner from 25 yards out.And the Argentine doubled his tally six minutes later thanks to a gift from Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley. The Englishman headed the ball straight to Aguero, who became Citys all-time leading goalscorer in the league with a tidy, swivelled finish.3

Sarri’s job is under serious threat

Ilkay Gundogan completed 25 minutes of chaos with a decent strike from the edge of the box, although Kepa Arrizabalaga will be disappointed not to have done better.Astonishingly, half an hour passed without a City goal, before Cesar Azpilicueta brought down Sterling in the box to allow Aguero to complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot.And the Blues heaviest defeat in Premier League history was confirmed when Sterling rounded off yet another free-flowing City move with ten minutes still remaining.As for the title race, City move back to within two points of the Reds with a performance to send shivers down Liverpool spines.
