Sadio Mane goal v Bayern Munich: Jurgen Klopp needs to watch ‘outstanding’ first strike ‘500 times’
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said he needs to watch Sadio Mane’s first goal back ‘500 times’ following the Reds’ Champions League triumph over Bayern Munich.A 3-1 win at the Allianz Arena sent the side through thanks to two strikes from Mane and Virgil van Dijk’s bullet header. It was a wonderful night in Europe for Liverpool3

All of the goals were good in their own right but in-form Mane’s goal was a splendid piece of individual brilliance. The Senegal international expertly controlled Van Dijk’s searching ball and then side-stepped Bayern stopper Manuel Neuer on the edge of the box before beautifully chipping the ball into the corner of the net.Mane made Neuer look a fool to break the deadlockGETTY3

Joel Matip’s own goal gave the German side hope of reaching the quarter-finals but the second-half headers from Van Dijk and Mane secured a deserved win for Liverpool.Klopp couldn’t get enough of Mane’s first goal though, saying after the game: “What we did was just brilliant, the goals we scored, fantastic!“The first goal (from Mane), I’m going to have to watch back 500 times. It’s astounding what he did.”Liverpool outclassed their opponents and Klopp was very impressed with his players’ maturity in the second leg.Klopp celebrates with the travelling Liverpool fans3

He added:“In the second half we were very mature. In the first, we should have played more football but in a game like this, you can never rest.“In the end it’s absolutely deserved, that’s the main news because it’s so difficult to play here.“They [Bayern] don’t lose a lot of games here (at the Allianz Arena), but this is a really big one. I’m so proud of the boys, the way they did it.“It didn’t look like Bayern would outplay us and that gave us confidence.” The victory is all the more sweet for Klopp, who viewed Bayern as a nemesis when he was managing in his homeland. However, the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss insisted he wasn’t taking extra pleasure from the result and said his motivation to win the tie came from his determination to succeed at Liverpool.Klopp added:“I didn’t want to beat Bayern for beating Bayern.“I wanted to win with Liverpool. It’s for us. It’s another wonderful night for Liverpool in the Champions League again.”
